History of Gucci Brand
Guccio Giovanbattista Giacinto Dario Maria Gucci was born in the year 1881, in Florence, Italy. He was the first among his family to move from Florence to France and then to London in search of a job. He then landed a job in the Savoy Hotel in London in the year 1897, where he was a bellhop. He observed the fashion preferences and the likings of the wealthy people who come to stay at the Savoy Hotel. Later, he also worked for a travel company specialized for leisure travel, where he expanded his knowledge further. Finally, in the year 1921, Guccio Gucci opened his first-ever Gucci store in Florence, Italy, that initially sold leather luggage. In the late 1930s, Gucci started to use other fabrics into the products. Under Aldo Gucci’s (Guccio Gucci’s son) persistence, Rome saw its first Gucci store in the year 1938. As World War II emerged, finding fabrics and materials to make their products even harder. That is when Gucci invented the iconic Bamboo bags, made using the Japanese bamboo.
Gucci’s sudden demise in the year 1953 came as a big shock to the company because it was only days they opened their first store in the United States. However, the Gucci brand was very much welcomed by the American crowd. Top celebrities and movie stars started using Gucci’s products and its popularity began to grow even more.
Even today, red and green still remain as the trademark colors used by Gucci and people go crazy to buy authentic, traditional, Gucci products. Gucci today is a subsidiary under the Kering group and its current CEO of Gucci is Marco Bizzarri and its creative director is Alessandro Michele. The soon to hit the century-year-old mark, the company has more than 450 stores situated globally and has around 17,000 employees working for it.
